adversary (n) an opponent; an ememy
backstretch (n) the part of the oval racecourse farthest from the spectators and opposite the homestretch
billiards (n) (used with a singular verb) a game played on a rectangular cloth-covered table with raised cushioned edges, in which a cue is used to hit three small, hard balls against one another or the side cushions of the table.
bout (n) a contest between antagonist; a match
contention (n) a striving to win in competition; rivalry
contestant (n) one taking part in a contest; a competitor
equestrian (adj) of or relating to horseback riding or horseback riders
intercept (v) to gain possession of (an opponent's pass), as in football or basketball
jockey (n) one who rides horses in races, especially as a profession.
rafting (n) floating or drifting on water in a flat-bottom inflatable craft.
spectator (n) an observer of an event
