What is a coming-of-age story where protagonist learns a lesson and matures? Bilungsroman
Generally comparing two concepts/ideas, typically on the basis of their structure and for the purpose of explanation or clarification. Analogy
A reoccuring character used to convey another meaning. Archetype

Indirect reference to a place, event, or literary work. Allusion
An extended metaphor. Allegory
Generally, how a character is developed through behavior, action,reaction and description. Characterization
When a character is torn between two sides. Internal Conflict
When a person is in conflict with another person, another force, society, etc. External Conflict
Breaking from plot to tell a story back in time. Flashback
Hinting at the future. Foreshadowing
Using descriptive words or phrases to create "mental images" for the reader. Imagery
When something unexpected happens (i.e. winning the lottery the day your mother dies). Irony
Directly/indirectly relating two persons, concepts, place, ideas or themes parallel to another. Juxtaposition
Any reoccurring element, subject,idea or concept. Motif
Giving human-characteristics to things "The raging winds" "The wise owl" "The warm and comforting fire". Personification
The sequence of events and happenings that make up a story. Plot
The manner in which a story is narrated/depicted and who it is that tells the story. Point of View
To the recurrence of similar sounds in prose and poetry, creating a musical, gentle effect. Rhythm & Rhyme
Making fun of a human weakness or character flaw. Satire
Time, place and mood of the events of the story. Setting
Comparing two things using "like" or "as". Simile
Related chunk of lines in poetry. Stanza
