| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Constant of proptionality | the constant value of the ratio of two proportional quantities x and y; usually written y = kx, where k is the factor of proportionality |
| Direct variation | In mathematics, if two variables are related in such a way that the ratio of their values remains the same. |
| Linear equation | a first-order equation involving two variables: its graph is a straight line in the Cartesian coordinate system |
| Point-slope form | The "point-slope" form of the equation of a straight line is: y - y1 = m(x - x1) ... one point on the line; and the slope of the line,. you can find other points on the line. |
| Slope-intercept form | which is y=mx + b, is a way to write linear equations. "M" is the slope of the line and "B" is y-intercept. |
| Rate of Change | The speed at which a variable changes over a specific period of time |
| Slope | to have or take an inclined or oblique direction or angle considered with reference to a vertical or horizontal plane; slant. |
| x-intercept | the distance from the origin to the point at which a curve or line intersects x axis. |
| y-intercept | the distance from the origin to the point at which a curve or line intersects y axis. |
| Unit Rate | is a ratio of two units. |
| Proportional relationship | between two quantities is one in which the two relationships are always in the form y = mx , and when graphed produce a line that |
| Intersecting Lines | the point where two lines meet or cross |
