Liner Equations and Funtions
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Constant of Proportionality | the constant value of the ratio of two proportional quantities x and y; usually written y = kx, where k is the factor of ... |
Slope | the slope or gradient of a line is a number that describes both the direction and the steepness of the line. |
Direct Variation | When two variable quantities have a constant (unchanged) ratio, their relationship is called a direct variation |
X-Intercept | The x-intercept of a line is the point at which the line crosses the x axis |
Linear Equation | A linear equation is an algebraic equation in which each term is either a constant or the product of a constant and (the first power of) a single variable. |
Y-Intercept | using the common convention that the horizontal axis represents a variable x and the vertical axis represents a variable y, a y-intercept is a point |
Point-Slope Form | Covers the 'point-slope' form of linear equations, including how to find a line equation using this form. |
Unit Rate | A rate is a ratio that is used to compare different kinds of quantities |
Slope-Intercept Form | Covers the 'slope-intercept', or 'y = mx + b', form of straight-line equations |
Proportional Relationship | between two quantities is one in which the two ... relationships are always in the form y = mx , and when graphed produce a line that. |
Rate of Change | The word slope (gradient, incline, pitch) is used to describe the measurement of the steepness of a straight line. The higher the slope, the steeper the line. |
Intersecting Lines | Determining where two straight lines intersect in coordinate geometry |
