linear and functions

constant of proportionality a constant ratio of two variables related proportionality
direct variation a relationship between two variables in which the data increase or decrease togather at a constant rate
x- intercept the x-coordinate of the point where the graph of a line crosses the x-axis
y-intercept the y-coordinate of the point where the graph of a line crosses the y-axis
linear equation an equation whose solutions form a straight line on a coordinate plan
unit rate a rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit
point-slope form the equation of a line in the form of 4-4=m(x-x),where m is the slope and (x,y) is a specific point on the line
slope measure of the steepness of a line
intersecting lines lines that cross at exactly one point
slope-intercept form a way to write a linear equation ex. : y=mx+b m is the slope of the line and b is the y- intercept
proportional relationship two quantities or proportional if they vary in such a way that one of them is a constant multiple of the other
rate of change a value that results from dividing the change in a function of a variable
