Unit 3 Linear Equations and Functions Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Constant of Proportionality is the value that relates the two amounts
Slope A rate of change/measure of the steepness of a line
Direct Variation A relationship between two variables in which one is a constant multiple of the other
X- intercept a zero, also sometimes called a root, of a real-, complex- or generally vector-valued function
linear equation an equation between two variables that gives a straight line when plotted on a graph.
Y- Intercept In coordinate geometry, using the common convention that the horizontal axis represents a variable x and the vertical axis represents a variable y, a y-intercept is a point where the graph o
Point-Slope Form the equation of a straight line
Unit Rate A rate whose denomater equals one
Slope- intercept form A linear equation is an algebraic equation in which each term is either a constant or the product of a constant and a single variable.
Proportional Relationship Two quantities are proportional if they vary in such a way that one of them is a constant multiple of the other.
Rate of Change Momentum and rate of change are simple technical analysis indicators
Intersecting lines The notion of line or straight line was introduced by ancient mathematicians to represent straight objects with negligible width and depth
