| Achilles | son of Peleus and Thetis, grandson of Aeacus, and commander of the Myrmidons, Achaean allies, at Troy. |
| Aeolus | master of winds, father of Cretheus. |
| Alcinous | king of the Phaeacians, husband of Arete, father of Nausicaa. |
| Anticleia | daughter of Autolycus, wife of Laertes, mother of Odysseus. |
| Aphrodite | goddess of love, daughter of Zeus and wife of Hephaestus. |
| Apollo | son of Zeus and Leto, patron of arts, especially music and poetry, and god of archery—“lord of the silver bow”—whose arrows are a metaphor for the onset of a plague, and whose festival day in Ithica is the day on which Odysseus kills the suitors. |
| Ares | son of Zeus and Hera, god of war, lover of Aphrodite. |

| Charybdis | monster in the form of a giant whirlpool, located across from Scylla. |
| Circe | goddess and enchantress of Aeaea, who changes men to swine. |
| Clashing rocks | legendary and lethal rocks or cliffs, near Scylla and Charybdis, which menace sailors |
| Cronus | god, son of Uranus, father of Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter. |
| Cyclops | a cannibal clan of one-eyed giants; also a name for Polyphemus in particular. |
| Dawn | goddess of the morning, wife of Tithonus. |
| Demeter | goddess of the grain crops, sister of Zeus and mother of Persephone. |
| Dionysus | son of Zeus and Semele, god of ecstatic release, especially associated with wine. |
