Atomic Structure
This is a set of key words from chapter 29 & 30
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Atom | An atom is the smallest particle of an element which still retains the properties of that element. |
| Proton | Protons are sub-atomic particles which can be found in the nucleus. These have a positive charge and have 1 AMU. |
| Electron | Electrons are sub-atomic particles which can be found on the orbital shells of the atom,These have a negative charge and have the smallest amount of AMU,1/1840 |
| Neutron | Neutrons are sub-atomic particles which can also be found inside the Nucleus. They have a neutral charge and have 1 AMU. |
| Atomic Mass Unit | It is the unit used to measure the mass of a sub-atomic particle |
| Sub-Atomic Particle | A sub-atomic particle make up an atom.There are 3 sub-atomic particles which make up an atom; 1.Protons 2.Electrons 3.Neutrons |
