| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Solute | The smaller substance in a solution |
| Solvent | The larger substance in a solution |
| Dilute | Small amount of solute per amount of solvent |
| Concentrated | large amount of solute per amount of solvent |
| Miscible | Two liquids that mix |
| Immiscible | Two liquids that can't mix |
| Unsaturated | Contain less than the maximum amount of solute in a solvent at a given temp. |
| Saturated | Contain the maximum amount of solute in a solvent at a given temp. |
| SuperSaturated | Unstable solution has more solute than the maximum at a given temp. usually due to rapid cooling of a hot saturated sol. |
| Degree of Unsaturated | solute dissolves |
| Degree of Saturated | solute does not dissolve |
| Degree of SuperSaturated | solute becomes large amount and will rapidly crystalize |
