Vocabulary Matching from F2013 Chem Exam

Alkali Metals Highly reactive group of metals that have 1 valence electron. Never found as pure elements
Alkaline Earth Metals Group of elements that are more reactive than the transition but less than the Alkali metals
Halogens The highly reactive group of non-metals that react with metals to form salts.
Noble Gases Group of elements that are stable and non-reactive. They have 8 valence electrons
Transition Metals Group of elements that have a varying amount of valence electrons
Heterogeneous Mixture A substance that can be separated by physical means and has non-uniform particles.
Compound A pure substance that can be broken down by chemical means.
Matter Any substance that has mass and takes up space.
Homogeneous Mixture A substance that can be separated by physical means and has uniform particles.
Element A pure substance that cannot be broken down by chemical means.
