| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Condyle | A rounded process that usually articulates with another bone |
| Crest | A narrow ridge-like projection |
| Epicondyle | A projection situated above a condyle (bump on a bump) |
| Facet | A small, nearly flat surface |
| Fissure | A crack-like opening for blood vessels or nerves |
| Fontanel | A soft spot in the skull where membranes cover the space between bones |
| Foramen | An opening through a bone that usually is a passageway for blood vessels, nerves or ligaments. |
| Fossa | A relatively deep pit or depression |
| Fovea | A tiny pit or depression |
| Head | An enlargement on the end of a bone |
| Margin | An edge of flat bone |
| Neck | The narrow region at the base of the head |
| Notch | A "V" shaped depression in edge of bone |
| Process | A prominent projection on a bone |
| Ramus | Curved portion of bone. |
| Sinus | Cavity within a bone |
| Spine | Thornlike projection |
| Sulcus | An elongated groove or depression. |
| Suture | An interlocking line of union between bones. |
| Trochanter | A relatively large process |
| Tubercle | A small, knoblike process |
| Tuberosity | A knoblike process usually larger than a tubercle. |
| Stylus | A pin-shaped projection. |
