Matter--Properties and Changes

state of matter tells whether a sample of matter is a solid, liquid, or gas; depends on the temperature and pressure of the matter
size-dependent property physical property that changes when the size of an object changes; length, width, height, volume, mass
size-independent property physical property that does not change when the size of an object changes; density, color, state of matter
chemical property a characteristic of matter that allows it to change to a different type of matter
reactivity how easily one thing reacts with something else
salts compounds that are made of a metal and a nonmetal; formed when an acid and a base react
physical change any change in size, shape, form, or state where the identity of the matter stays the same
chemical change occurs when one type of matter changes into a different type of matter with different properties
physical weathering physical change responsible for much of the shape of Earth's surface
chemical weathering chemical change to a substance, usually rock, caused by natural or unnatural means
