Ribosomes The site where proteins are synthesized (made). It is like the factory of the cell.
Nucleus The control center of the cell. This is the site that controls all cellular activity because it contains the cell's DNA. It is like the brain of the cell.
Cell Wall Outer covering of plant and prokaryotic cells. Used to provide structure for the cell.
Cell/Plasma Membrane The fluid barrier that surrounds all prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. It controls what can enter and leave the cell.
Golgi Apparatus/Body This is where substances are packaged and shipped in the cell. It is like the postoffice of the cell.
Endoplasmic Reticulum This is the site where proteins and lipids are made and then transported. It is like the road of the cell.
Smooth ER The endoplasmic reticulum that does not have ribosomes embedded in it.
Rough ER The endoplasmic reticulum that has ribosomes embedded in it.
Mitochondria The site where energy (ATP) is made for the cell. The site of cellular respiration in cells.
Chloroplast The site of photosynthesis in a cell. It is only found in plant cells.
Lysosome This is only found in animal cells. It is the site where materials are broken down in the cell. It is like the recycling center of the cell.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
