| energy | The ability to do work or cause a change |
| potential energy | the energy something has because of its position |
| kinetic energy | energy of motion |
| thermal energy | a form of energy that is created using heat. This form of energy makes particles of matter move faster. |
| chemical energy | a form of energy that is the result of chemicals reacting to each other or to some action |
| mechanical energy | the energy of moving objects, or the energy of moving parts of a machine |
| electrical energy | energy made available by the flow of electric charge through a conductor |
| light energy | the form of energy associated with visible light |
| solar energy | energy from the sun |
| reflect | to bounce off of |
| refract | to bend |
| absorb | to take in |
| electric charge | tiny amount of energy in the particles of matter |
| electric current | the movement of an electric charge from one place to another |
| electric circuit | the path that a controlled electric current flows through |
| opaque | light is blocked |
| transparent | light passes through easily |
| translucent | light is blurred |
| attract | move towards each other |
| repel | move away from each other |
| electromagnetic radiation | energy that travels through space in the form of light and other types of energy |
| convection | the movement of warm liquids or gases to cooler areas |
| conduction | transfer of thermal energy between objects that are in contact |
