| Voice | The way a writer or speaker uses words and tone to express his or her ideas as well as personas |
| Connotation | The emotional feeling attached to a word |
| Anaphora | The repetition of the same word or groups of words at the beginning of two or more clauses or lines. |
| Cryptic | Hidden, secret, mysterious |
| Acclimate | To get accustomed to a new environment or situation. |
| Fervent | Showing great emotion |
| Images | Helps to create pictures or ideas in the readers mind. Appeal to the five senses, especially sight. |
| Denotation | The literal meaning of a word. |
| Symbol | A concrete object which represents an abstract idea. |
| Pretentious | Showy, exaggerated, pompous, fake |
| Implicit | Vague; implied; understood |
| Persona | The voice assumed by a writer to express ideas or beliefs that may not be his or her own. |
| Synthesis | The act of combining ideas from different sources to create, express, or support a new idea. |
| Juxtaposition | The arrangement of two or more things for the purpose of comparison. |
| Satire | A manner of writing that mixes a critical attitude with wit and humor in an effort to improve mankind and human intuition. |
| Argument | A form of writing that presents a particular opinion or idea and supports it. |
