Variables, Expressions and Properties

Evaluate | To find the value of an expression |
Order of operations | A set of rules mathematicians use to determine the order in which operations are preformed |
Identity property of multiplication | The product of a number and one is that number |
Associative property of multiplication | The way numbers are grouped does. Not effect the product |
Identity property of addition | Adding zero to a number does not change the number |
Substitution | To replace a variable with a number |
Distributive property | Multiplying a sum or difference by a number gives the same results as multiplying each number in the sum or difference by the number and adding or subtracting the products. |
Coefficient | The number that is multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression |
Algebraic expression | A mathematical phrase that has at least one variable and one operation |
Commutative property of addition | The order in which numbers are added does not change the sum of the numbers |
Variable | A quantity that can change or vary, often represented with a letter |
Input and output table | A table of related values. |
Commutative property of multiplication | The order in which numbers are multiplied does not change the product of the numbers |
Associative property of addition | The way numbers are grouped does not affect the sum |
