Variables, Expressions and Properties

Evaluate To find the value of an expression
Order of operations A set of rules mathematicians use to determine the order in which operations are preformed
Identity property of multiplication The product of a number and one is that number
Associative property of multiplication The way numbers are grouped does. Not effect the product
Identity property of addition Adding zero to a number does not change the number
Substitution To replace a variable with a number
Distributive property Multiplying a sum or difference by a number gives the same results as multiplying each number in the sum or difference by the number and adding or subtracting the products.
Coefficient The number that is multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression
Algebraic expression A mathematical phrase that has at least one variable and one operation
Commutative property of addition The order in which numbers are added does not change the sum of the numbers
Variable A quantity that can change or vary, often represented with a letter
Input and output table A table of related values.
Commutative property of multiplication The order in which numbers are multiplied does not change the product of the numbers
Associative property of addition The way numbers are grouped does not affect the sum
