why should you study chemistry? it helps explain the world we live in by describing the changes that matter undergoes as a result of chemicals reacting, how we convert energy, what fuels the sun, why oranges are sour, etc.
why is chemistry important to other sciences? it is used in medicine, agriculture, public service, and teaching
what careers are open to chemists? governmental agencies, businesspeople, consultants for law firms
describe linus pauling's accomplishments. he is the only person to receive 2 unshared Nobel prizes. 1954: chemistry. 1962: peace. 1st person to determine nature of chemical bond. biochemistry. helped determine the structure of a protein, nature of DNA, and role of vitamin C in human health
structure of an atom nucleus (core) contains + protons and ~neutrons, and is surrounded by - electron cloud, which constantly moves in orbit of nucleus
