Solving Quadratic Equations by Completing the Square

Standard Form of Quadratic Equation ax^2+bx+c=0
Square Root Property if a^2=b then the square root of a equals plus or minus b
Perfect Square Trinomial ax^2+2ab+b^2 = (a+b)^2
Completing the Square means writing a quadratic equation so that one side is a perfect square trinomial.
What is added to both sides of an equation to complete the square? The square of 1/2 the coefficient of x.
5 Steps used to solve ax^2+bx+c=0 by completing the square: 1. Divide both sides of equation by coefficient of x^2. 2. Isolate the variable x. 3. Complete the square. 4. Factor the square. 5. Use the square root property.
