Context noun is the words that surround other words and impact their meaning The setting or which something occurs
Literal adjective a translation that strictly follows the exact words; The phrase “know your ropes” means literally “to know a lot about ropes,”
Figurative adjective something that is not to be interpreted literally, but that instead uses a symbol or a likeness.
Subtext noun The feelings or motives which are the understood meaning of a written work
Vernacular noun/adjective common language spoken by average citizens of a particular place,or is a language used within a particular field or industry
Archaic adjective very old or old fashioned
Anecdote noun a usually short narrative of an interesting, amusing, or biographical incident
Amiable adjective having or displaying a friendly and pleasant manner
Abhor verb regard with disgust and hatred
Audacious adjective showing willingness to take surprisingly bold risks
Acumen noun the ability to think clearly and make good decisions
Advocate verb to support or argue for a cause
Allege verb to state without proof or before proving
Ambiguous adjective unclear or inexact between a choice
Ascertain verb to find out or learn with certainty
Arbitrary adjective based on random choice or personal whim
Antithesis noun a person or thing that is the direct opposite of someone or something else
Aesthetic adjective of or relating to art or beauty
Accentuate verb to make something more noticeable
Abridge verb to shorten (a book, a play, etc.) by leaving out some parts without losing the sense
Bias noun a tendency to believe that some people, idea, etc., are better than others that usually result in treating some people unfairly
Beguile verb to trick or deceive someone
Benign adjective not causing death or serious injury
Behemoth noun something very big and powerful
Bane noun cause of great distress or annoyance
Compelling adjective very interesting, able to capture and hold your attention
Criteria noun a principle or standard by which something may be judged or decided
Coherent adjective logical and well-organized: easy to understand
Concede verb to say that you accept or do not deny the truth or existence of something
Contradict transitive verb to deny the truth of something
Concise adjective using few words: not including extra or unnecessary information
Construe verb to understand (an action, event, remark , ect.) in a particular way
Cumulative adjective increasing or becoming better or worse over time through a series of addition/including or adding together all of the things that came before made up of accumulated parts
Coalesce verb to come together to form one group or mass
Caustic adjective able to destroy or burn something by chemical action/very harsh and critical acidic
Cursory adjective done or made quickly
Cogent adjective (of an argument or case) clear, logical, and convincing
Chronological adjective arranged in the order that things happened or came to be
Cerebral adjective relating to the brain, related to the mind rather than to feelings
Complacent adjective satisfied with how things are and not wanting to change them
