Literary terms
| Term | Definition |

| Plot | The sequence of events or action in a short story, novel, play or narrative poem. |
| Conflict | a struggle of some kind,is the most important element of plot. person Vs. person, person Vs. society, person Vs. nature, Person Vs. self, Person Vs. Fate. |
| Setting | the time and place of the action of story |
| Characterization | refers to the techniques that a writer uses to develop characters. 1-Through physical description. 2-Through character's speech, thoughts, feelings, or actions. 3-through the speech feelings, thoughts, or actions, of other characters. |
| Foreshadowing | is a writers use of hints or clues to indicate events that will that will occur later in the story |
| Flashback | is a conversation, an episode, or an event that happened before the beginning of a story. |
| Point of view | The vantage point from which a narrative is told. |
| Characterization | 4-Through direct comments about a character's nature. |
| protagonist | the main character of the story; the good guy |
| Antiagonist | the main source of the conflict; the bad guy |
| Sub Plot | Is less important than the main plot in a novel |
| Narrative | supplies information about the characters |
| symbol | a person, place thing or event used to stand for something behind it self |
| theme | is the main idea and the authors statement |
