| Shroud | a cloth in which a dead body is wrapped before burial |
| Bore | to make somebody lose interest and so feel tired and annoyed |
| Rutted | a narrow channel or groove in something, especially one made by the wheels of vehicles |
| Knelt | to kneel |
| Shunned | to avoid somebody or something intentionally |
| Steward | somebody who manages somebody else's property, finances, or household |
| Manor | a house and the land surrounding it, owned by a medieval noble |
| Astride | on top of and with a leg on each side of something |
| Scowled | an expression of anger, displeasure, or menace made by drawing the eyebrows together toward the middle of the forehead |
| Deigned | to do something in a way that shows that it is considered a great favor |
| Contempt | a powerful feeling of dislike toward somebody or something considered to be worthless, inferior, or undeserving of respect |
| Transgression | a crime or any act that violates a law, command, or moral code |
| Poaching | catch wild animals or fish illegally on public land or while trespassing on private land |
| Stag | an adult male deer, especially a male red deer |
| Forfeit | the act or an instance of giving something up or being deprived of something as a punishment |

| Entombed | to put something in a place that is hidden or very deep |
