DEFINE: PERCENT a ratio that compares a number with 100
PERCENTS CAN BE WRITTEN AS... fractions or decimals
TO REWRITE A PERCENT AS A DECIMAL... write the percent over 100 and rewrite in lowest terms
TO REWRITE A PERCENT AS A DECIMAL... move the decimal point two places to the LEFT
TO REWRITE A DECIMAL AS A PERCENT... move the decimal point two places to the RIGHT
TO REWRITE A FRACTION AS A DECIMAL... use division to convert the fraction to a decimal then move the decimal point two places to the RIGHT
MENTAL MATH - TO FIND 50% OF A NUMBER... divide by 2 or take 1/2 of the number
MENTAL MATH: TO TAKE 10% OF A NUMBER move decimal point ONE place to the LEFT
MENTAL MATH: TO TAKE 1% OF A NUMBER... move the decimal point TWO places to the LEFT
TWO WAYS TO SOLVE A PERCENT PROBLEM ARE.. 1) write and solve an equation; 2) set-up a proportion
PROPORTION TO CALCULATE PERCENT INCREASES OR DECREASES... percent change/100 = amt. of change/original amt
