Federalism is a vertical division of powers
state and national laws remained in conflict over the complex relationships between different levels of government in the united states

a confederate government is where the national government is weak and most power is in the hands of the states

states can vote for their leaders and federal leaders
the constitution is specific about powers that the states do not have
the constitution guaranteed equal representation in the senate
framers made the states vital components in machinery of government
the word federalism isn't in the constituion

the states and the national government have overlapping responsibilites
