Poetry Terms

different terms in poetry defined

TermDefinition
Anapest A metrical foot of three syllables. Two unstressed followed by one stressed.
Ballad Poem that tells a story similar to a folk tale that has often been repeated.
Blank verse Poetry that is written in free form.
Couplet Pair of lines that are the same length and rhyme.
Hyperbole A figure of speech in which great exaggeration is used to create emphasis.
