Argument Words for english
| Term | Definition |

| Term | Big point your trying to prove. |
| Sub Claim | Your reason you believe the claim is true. |
| Evidence | Factional proof that support your claim. Can be data, backing, and support. |
| "So what" (warrant) | Connects your reasons and evidence to the major claim and explains why they are important to your argument. Connector; Link; Explanation; Elaboration. |
| Rebuttal (counter-argument) | A good argument that admits the that there are other point of views, and then shows why your argument is stronger. |
| Rhetoric | Using language effectively and persuasively. Three key elements of rhetoric are audience, purpose, and exigence. |
| Exigence | The circumstance, situation, or issue that the speaker is inspired to respond to. |
| Audience | The intended person, people, or group the speaker is trying to reach to. |
| Purpose | The intended outcome of a speech or text. |
| Appeals | The approaches the speaker uses to influence the audience. Well balanced argument will use three methods: ethos, pathos, logos. |
| Ethos | Statements designed to convince the audience of the speaker's knowledge on a subject lending credibility to his/her perspective. |
| Pathos | Statements designed to work the emotions of the audience ultimately intended to influence their feelings about the topic. |
| Logos | Logic and reasoning using support (evidence) to influence the reader. |
