EUS 2/Testing Words

Practice for Test 2

TermDefinition
Variable A letter that is used to represent a number.
Equation A math sentence formed by placing = between two expressions.
Expression A sum, difference, product, or quotient of one or more terms.
Inequality A math sentence formed by placing <, >, etc... between two expressions.
Distributive Property An example of this is a(b + c) = ab + ac
Coefficient The number part of a term with a variable.
Like Terms Terms that have the same variables and the same exponents.
Inverse Operations Operations that undo each other.
Literal Equation An equation in which letters are used to replace the coefficients of another equation.
Solution of an Equation A number that produces a true statement when substituted for the variable in an equation.
Solution of an Inequality A number that produces a true statement when substituted for the variable in an inequality.
Explain Tell about it in your own words.
Evaluate To judge
Contrast List all the ways two or more things are different.
Summarize To give the short version.
Predict To tell what you think might happen
Support To back up with details
Infer To make an educated guess
Analyze To break apart
Compare To list all the ways two or more things are alike.
