TermDefinition
Network A set of computers that are connected to each other so that each computer can send and receive information to and from the other computers
LAN - Local Area Network A LAN connects network devices over a relatively short distance.
WAN - Wide Area Network A WAN is a geographically-dispersed collection of LANs. A network device called a router connects LANs to a WAN.
Server A computer that controls or performs a particular job for all the computers in a network
Host computer The main computer in a network that controls certain processes or files
Internet A computer system that allows people in different parts of the world to exchange information.
Intranet A network (=system connecting computers) within an organization that only members of that organization can use
Transmission The process of sending out electronic signals such as radio or television signals, or a signal sent out in this way
