7th Grade Plot

TermDefinition
Plot What happens in a story; the action
Conflict The problem the main character is facing; can be internal (inside) or external (outside)
Internal Conflict A problem the main character is having with his/herself; usually deals with something moral or emotional
External Conflict A problem the main character is having with outside forces, such as another character, a group of people, or nature
Climax The point in the story where the main character faces his/her conflict; the most exciting part of the story, the point the reader has been waiting for; usually happens towards the end of a story
Resolution The end of a story; how a story is tied up or resolved
Foreshadowing When the author hints at what will happen later
Suspense The feeling the author creates by making the reader wonder what will happen next
