| Term | Definition |

| Variable | A letter that is used to represent a number. Example: a,x,y,q. |
| Variable Expression | A math problem with numbers, variables and operation signs. Example 2C+11B |
| Numerical Expression | A math problem with numbers, and operation signs. Example: 2(34+11)^2 |
| Substituting | Replace each variable with numbers. |
| Evaluate | Solve, find an answer that is a number |
| Power | The result answer of multiplying the same factor repeatedly. |
| Base | The only number being multiplied. (The big #) |
| Exponent | The little number. Tells us how many times to multiply the base. |
| Formula | Describes a relationship between amounts. |
| Sum | Add |
| Product | Multiply |
| Quotient | Divide |
| Difference | Subtract |
| Less than | Subtract, Change the order |
| Subtracted from | Subtract, Change the order |
