Vocabulary to help you study for Eleven Quiz

QuestionAnswer
tone is the attitude of the narrator, conveyed often through word choice, author’s use of imagery, and figurative language.
imagery language that appeals to the five senses
similie a direct comparison of dissimilar objects, usually using like or as: “I wandered lonely as a cloud”
hyperbole is the author’s use of exaggeration.
climax the highest point of action in the story.
resolution the outcome of the conflict in a play or story. This concludes the falling action or conclusion.
structure time order, order of importance, cause-effect, comparison-contrast, geographic order of a work of literature.
purpose is the reason an author decides to write about a specific topic. Then, once a topic is selected, the author must decide whether this is to inform, persuade, entertain, or explain his ideas to the reader.
