| Cliché | Something that's been done many times over many years |
| Dialect | The language spoken in a piece of literature |
| Dialogue | A conversation between two or more characters |
| Diction | The author's choice of words |
| Direct Characterization | Telling exactly what a character is like |
| Dramatic Irony | Something that is known by the audience but not the character(s) |
| Verbal Irony | When someone says or writes one thing, but means another |
| Dynamic Character | A character who changes significantly |
| Five Parts of Plot | Exposition-Rising Action-Climax-Falling Action-Resolution |
