Alliteration The repetition of letters in neighboring words
Allusion A brief reference to a historical, mythological, or literary person, place, thing, or event
Antagonist The character who troubles the protagonist
Assonance The repetition of vowel sounds
Author's purpose The reason for the story
Character's motivation Forces the character to think, feel, or behave a certain way
Cliche A cheesy way to do something
Couplet Two rhyming lines of verse
Dialect A particular place, time, or group to talk
Dialogue Conversation between characters
