Unit 1: Absolute Values

TermDefinition
Open sentence a mathematical sentence containing one or more variables
Equation a mathematical sentence stating that two mathematical expressions are equal
Solution a number that replaces a variable and makes a true sentence
Absolute Value the distance from 0 on a number line
Empty set an equation with no solution
Compound inequality two inequalities joined by the world "and" or the word "or"
Intersection a compound inequality with an "and" set of solutions
Union a compound inequality with an "or" set of solutions
Absolute value function f(x)=|x|
Boundary A line that separates the solution set on a graphed inequality
