Reflective Response Designed to elicit as full a sense as possible of the speaker's thoughts and especially, feelings. This technique involves reflecting back to the speaker what you believe he/she has said in order to verify
Content Response Intended to provide the parent with the relevant knowledge necessary to understand the nature of the disorder and the steps recommended for managing it
Active Listening Requires the listener to provide feedback on what her hears to the speaker by re-stating or paraphrasing what he has heard in his own words to confirm what he has heard
Phonological Prompting Giving a phonologic clue to elicit or support the child's production
Linguistic Prompting Giving a linguistic clue to elicit or support the production of language
Acoustic Prompting Giving a phonologic clue to elicit or support the child's production providing slightly exaggerated intonation patterns
Responsive Teaching An overall approach to teaching where the teacher, then closely assesses the student's response and makes adjustments in future teaching based on those responses
Acoustic Highlighting Emphasizing certain words that are difficult to hear through the use of segmentals and suprasegmentals
Positive Reinforcement Adding a positive stimulus to a behavior to encourage it to occur again
Negative Reinforcement Subtracting, avoiding or removing an adverse stimulus to strengthen a behavior
Carrier Phrase Alerts the child to attend to a word
