Ir vs. irse To go - emphasis on destination vs. emphasis on origin (_ a una fiesta vs. _ de una fiesta)
Comer vs. comerse (beber vs. beberse etc) (comí pasteles vs. me comí el pastel) Signifies totality in verbs of consumption - I ate cakes vs. I ate all of the cake
Se fue corriendo vs. fue corriendo - verbos de movimiento In verbs of motion, signifies more speed (He came running flat-out vs. he came running)
Despedir a alguien vs. despedirse de alguien To sack someone vs. to say goodbye (to see someone off (at airport etc))
Se me olvidaron los deberes/ se me quebró el vaso In excuses - reduces voluntary nature of accident (I forgot my homework/ I broke the glass)
El alimento chatarra (Mexico)/ la comida basura Junk food (two phrases)
Estirar To stretch (elastic etc)
Estirar la pata To kick the bucket
La barriga Belly
La panza Paunch
La vientre Abdomen/ belly/ womb

Tú = 3rd person present (¡habla!) with irregulars: ten, pon, sal, ven, dí, sé, haz, ve Vos = same with accent (¡hablá!), irregulars have accented letter corresponding to type of verb, e.g. tené, decí Vosotros = vos minus accent and add 'd' e.g. decid Imperative - positive for tú, vos and vosotros
Tú negativo = 2nd person singular subjunctive (no hables, no digas, no sepas) Vos = same but with accent on final vowel (no hablás) Vosotros = 2nd person plural subjunctive (no digáis) Imperative - negative for tú, vos and vosotros
All take 1st person singular present and add subjunctive endings so for salir: salga (usted), salgan (ustedes), salgamos (nosotros). Contar = cuente, cuenten, contemos (o-ue) Imperative - positive and negative for usted, nosotros and ustedes
Un/a vago/a A lazybones, a slacker
Positive = imperative form + indirect object + direct object. Negative = indirect + direct + verb e.g. ¡cómpremelas! (nunca me las compre) Imperatives with object pronouns
Quien mucho abarca poco aprieta You shouldn't bite off more than you can chew
Abarcar (el libro abarca desde el siglo XVII hasta nuestros días) To cover, span, encompass (the book covers the 17th Century to the present day)
Apretar (apretar el gatillo/ el puño) To press (a button etc), to tighten, to clutch (to pull the trigger) (to clench your fist)
Nunca digas de esta agua no beberé You never know when the same thing might happen to you
Más vale maña que fuerza Brain is better than brawn
