Polynomial Operations

TermDefinition
Base The number that is being raised to a power. In 3^4=3x3x3x3, 3 is the ________.
Exponent The number written above the base. It tells you how many times to multiply the base together. In 3^4=3x3x3x3, 4 is the ________.
Term A part of an expression that is separated by a + or – sign.
Degree How many variables are in that term.
Expression A math statement that does not have an equal sign.
Polynomial An expression with two or more terms.
Monomial An expression with one term.
Binomial An expression with two terms.
Trinomial: An expression with three terms.
Factor To find what can be multiplied together to get an answer.
GCF (greatest common factor) The largest number that will divide into to numbers.
Product The answer to a multiplication problem.
Area The total space that a shape takes up. It is measured in square units. In a rectangle it is found by multiplying the length and the width.
Dimensions The different directions that you can measure a shape. In a rectangle, it would be width and height. In a cube, it would be length, width and height.
