| counting or natural numbers | The numbers we count with no decimals or fractions. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… |
| whole numbers | natural numbers plus 0: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4… |
| integers | positive and negative whole numbers: …-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3… |
| operations | Any of the single steps in a math problem. (+- × ÷ exponents and parentheses) |
| equation | A statement in math that says two things are equal using an equal sign. Ex: 2+3=5; 2x=4; y=2x-4 |
| inequality | A statement in math that says one thing is greater than or less than or just not equal to another using one of the following signs: ˂ ≤ ≠ ≥ ˃. |
| expression | A statement in math that does not have an equal or inequality sign. Ex.: 2; 2x; 2x^2+4; 2xy+3z+13 |
| term | One part of an expression separated by a plus or minus sign. In 2x^2+4x-5, 2x^2, 4x and -5 are the ____________. |
