Motion in one dimension

TermDefinition
Magnitude The numeric value of a vector. Tells size or amount.
Frame of Reference A coordinate system for specifying the precise location of objects in space.
Acceleration The rate of change of velocity. Change in velocity over time.
Velocity A vector quantity specifying the speed and direction of movement of an object. Change in displacement over time.
Displacement The change in position of an object.
Distance A scalar quantity specifying the total amount traveled.
Speed A scalar quantity specifying the magnitude of velocity. Change in distance over time.
Free Fall The motion of an object falling with constant acceleration. An object that is only subject to the force of gravity.
Gravity The mutual force of attraction between two objects.
Kinematics The study of motion of objects.
