To convert a percentage to a fraction Change the % sign to a denominator of 100. Simplify the fraction if required.
To express one quantity as a percentage of another Write a fraction with the ‘part amount’ as the numerator and the ‘whole amount’ as the denominator. Convert the fraction to a percentage by multiplying by 100%
To find a certain percentage of a quantity Convert the required percentage to a decimal Change the ‘of’ to a multiplication sign. Multiply the decimal formed from the percentage by the amount
The unitary method involves finding the value of ‘one unit’, usually 1%, then using this information to answer the question.
