What does ANSI represent? | American National Standards Institute |
What is an ANTIFREEZE CHARGE? | Aka "loaded stream charge" This is a water-based extinguishing medium that uses an alkali salt to prevent freezing |
What is CO2? | CO2 is a colorless, odorless, electrically non-conductive inert gas for Class B & C fires |
What is DRY CHEMICAL? | Dry chem = a powder made of very small particles of sodium/potassium bicarbonate or ammonium phosphate |
Waht is WET CHEMICAL? | Wet chem = liquid salts |
Does CLEAN AGENT leave a residue? | Clean agent does not leave any residue |
What is a DRY CHEMICAL CLOSED RECOVERY SYSTEM? | A dry chem closed recovery system recycles the agent while not allowing foreign matter to enter into the system and allows for visual inspection of the agent for foreign matter |
What is a HALOGENATED CLOSED RECOVERY SYSTEM? | A halogenated closed recovery system doesn't allow any agent to escape to the atmosphere |
What is the HIGH PRESSURE cylinder threshold? | >500 psi |
What is the LOW PRESSURE cylinder threshold? | < 500 psi |
Who is the DOT? | Department of Transportation |
What is an EXTINGUISHER INSPECTION? | An extinguisher inspection is a quick check |
What is EXTINGUISHER MAINTENANCE entail? | Extinguisher maintenance is a thorough examination |
What are two FILM-FORMING AGENTS? | AFFF - Aqueous Film-Forming Foam FFFP - Film-Forming Flouroprotein Foam |
What depth makes a liquid a FLAMMABLE LIQUID OF APPRECIABLE DEPTH? | > 1/4" |
What are HALOGENATED AGENTS? | Halogenated agents = clean agents |
Two types of HALOGENATED AGENTS | 1. Halocarbons 2. Halons |
What is HYDROSTATIC TESTING? | Hydro test = pressure test |
What is a LOADED STREAM CHARGE? | Liquid salt that prevents freezing |
What is a MILD STEEL SHELL? | 1. NOT stainless steel 2. Steel shells used for high pressure cylinders |
What is the FACTORY TEST PRESSURE? | Factory Test Pressure = pressure at the time of manufacture |
Define TRAVEL DISTANCE | Actual walking distance to an FE |
Define WETTING AGENT | Wetting agent = a penetrating/spreading concentrate |
What is a CARTRIDGE/CYLINDER OPERATED FE? | The gas is in a separate container from the agent |
What is a PORTABLE FE? | Portable or wheeled that carries a pressurized agent that is used to suppress or extinguish fire |
What is a RECHARGEABLE (REFILLABLE) FE? | An FE that can be maintained, hydro'd, and parts replaced |
What is a SELF-EXPELLING FE? | A self-expelling FE allows agent to be expelled |
What is a STORED PRESSURE FE? | Both expellant and agent are in a single container, with a gauge |
What is a WATER MIST FE? | An FE that contains distilled or deionized water in a fine spray |
What is a WATER TYPE FE? | An FE that contains water, AFFF, FFFP, antifreeze, loaded stream or wet chemical |
What is a WHEELED FE? | Wheeled FE = cartridge and wheels for 1-person use |
