| Conjugate Acid-Base Pair | Two substances related to each other by the donating and accepting of a single proton. |
| Equivalent of an Acid | The amount of acid that can furnish one mole of hydrogen ions. |
| Equivalent of a Base | The amount of base that can furnish one mole of hydroxide ions. |
| Halogen | A group 7 element. |
| Heterogeneous Mixture | A mixture that has different properties in different regions of the mixture. |
| Homogeneous Mixture | A mixture that is the same throughout. |
| Ion | An atom or a group of atoms that has a positive or negative charge. |
| Ionic Bond | The attraction between oppositely charged ions. |
| Law of Conservation of Energy | Energy can be changed from one form to another but is neither created or destroyed. |
| Law of Conservation of Mass | Mass in not created or destroyed. |
| Lewis Structure | A representation of a molecule or poly-atomic ion showing how valence electrons are arranged among the atoms in the molecule or ion |

| Mass Number | The total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom. |
| Mixture | A substance with variable composition. |
| Molar Mass | The mass in grams of one mole of a compound. |

| Orbital | The three dimensional region in which there is a high probability of finding an electron in an atom. |
| Oxyacid | An acid in which the acidic proton is attached to an oxygen ion. |
| Percent Yield | The actual yield of a product as a percentage of the theoretical yield. |
| Photon | A particle of electromagnetic radiation. |
| Resonance | A condition occurring when more than one valid Lewis structure can be written for a particular molecule. |
| Saturated Solution | A solution that contains as much solute as can be dissolved at that temperature. |
| Noble Gas | A gas with a full outer energy level. (valence electrons) |
