Why didn’t Elie fast on Yom Kippur? Elie decides to fast on Yom Kippur because he has lost his faith in God.
What advice was Elie given to pass the selection process? He is told to run around before the selection process so that he can get some color in his skin.
How did Elie's father respond when he learned his name had been written down? He ran to Elie and handed him all of his possessions, as he prepared to be killed.
What did I Akiba Drumer ask the others to do for him? Did they do it? Akiba Drumer asked the others to say that Kaddish for him, but when the time came they did not say it.
Why was Elie placed in the hospital? He was placed in the hospital because his foot had swollen.
Why was the camp to be evacuated? What did Elie learn of the fate of those who stayed behind in the hospital? The camp was being evacuated because the Russian army was coming. Elie later learned that the Army liberated those who stayed in the hospital.
What happened to anyone who could not keep up with the march? People who could not keep up with the March were either trampled or killed by the guards.
How did Zalman die? Salmanazars died when he could no longer keep up with the run and was trampled by the others.
What horrible realization did Elie come to concerning Rabbi Eliahou and his son? How did Elie respond to this? Elie Realized that the Rabbi's son had abandoned his father on the march. Elie prayed That he would never do such a thing to his own father. Pray that he would never do such a thing to his own father.
What was Juliek's last act? He played Beethoven on his violin; they were forbid to play German music, but he played it before he died.
How did Elie help his father when the selection was made? He ran after his father, angering the S.S. Confusion broke out, and they were able to sneak back to the good side.
