| Term | Definition |

| Absolute Value | The distance from zero on the number line (always a positive number). |
| Negative Numbers | A number less than zero |
| Opposite Number | Two numbers that are the same distance from zero on a number line, but in opposite directions. |
| Ordered Pair | A pair of numbers,(𝑥, 𝑦), that indicate the position of a point on the coordinate plane. |
| Origin | The point of intersection of the x and y axis on a coordinate plane (0,0) |
| Positive Number | A number greater than zero |
| Rational Number | A number that can be expressed as the ratio of two integers in the form a/b where b is not equal to 0. |
| X-Axis | The horizontal axis of a graph |
| X-Coordinate | The position of a point in relation to the x-axis. |
| Y-Axis | The vertical axis of a graph. |
| Y-Coordinate | The position of a point in relation to the y-axis. |
| Coordinate Plane | A plane containing two perpendicular axes (x and y) intersecting at a point called the origin (0,0). |
| Distance | Amount of separation between 2 points. |
| Integers | The set whole numbers and their opposites. |
| Quadrant | One of the four regions on a coordinate plane formed by the intersection of the x-axis and the y-axis. |
