| indefinite pronouns | pronouns which refer to general things, such as any, some, none |
| interrogative pronouns | pronouns that ask questions |
| introduction | overview of the information in a paragraph or passage |
| language | the most common way people communicate. |
| Metaphor | figurative language that compares two things without using the words like or as |
| modifier | a word or phrase that describes something else |
| mood | the general feeling of a story, such as tense or cheerful |
| noun clause | a dependent clause that can be used as a noun or pronoun |
| onomatopoeia | the use of words that are pronounces to form the sounds they represent |
| personal pronouns | pronouns used in the place of nouns, such as I, we, you, they, it |
| personification | figurative language that gives human traits to animals or objects |
| perspective | the author’s attitude toward the topic, which sets the passage’s tone |
