| Epithet | Phase applied to a person or thing to describe an actual quality. "Richard the Lion-Hearted." |
| Synecdoche | A part is used for the whole or the whole for a part. "Ten sail for ten ships or a Croesus for a rich man." |
| Assonance | Rhyme in which the same vowel sounds are used with different consonants. "Penitent and reticence." |
| Alliteration | Repetition of the initial sound. |
| Mantras | Something repeated over and over again like habits or morals. |
