Oedipus The main character in Theban Trilogy, kills his father, marries his mother, fulfills the oracle of Apollo. Teacher was Aeschalus.
Laius The father of Oedipus, married to Jocasta, is killed by Oedipus, he tried to kill Oedipus when he was a baby.
Aeneas The main character in the The Aeneid. Trojan. similar to the Odyssey. Adulterer. traveled for 7 years.
Patrician means well fathered, wealthy individuals who traced their lineage from the first senators under the reign of the kings.
Consuls The first rulers following the reign of the kings
Decemvir Ten men granted absolute power to govern
Dictator allowed to rule temporarily for up to six months due to an emergency
Lictor/Lector attendant of a magistrate or consul, serving as his personal bodyguard and policeman.
Plebian common people. Or anybody who was not descended from the lineage of kings.

Euthyphro Took his father to court for murder, questioned by Socrates about honoring your parents, He is concerned about the pollution of the minds of the youth.
The Fabii A family who came together to become volunteers for a standalone army.
Coriolaunus AKA, Caius Marcius, Rose to prominence, distinguished patrician. Defended someone.
The Volscians Rebels that rebelled because of the price of grain was too high.
Secession of the Plebs When the plebs couldn't handle being slaves to the Patres they seceeded and won.
Creon The smart dude who could interpret the prophecies from Apollo.
Teiresias The dead Theban prophet from the underworld, in the Odyssey and in the Theban Trilogy.
Antigone The daughter of Oedipus, was his most faithful child. Went everywhere with him and took care of him. After he died, she went back and found her brother and gave him a proper burial and was killed because of it.
Ismene The other faithful daughter of Oedipus. She tried to warn Antigone not to go bury their brother and what would happen, but she couldn't stop Antigone.
Crito The guy who gave Socrates the choice to escape prison or commit suicide with poison. Socrates chose suicide. In the book Last Days of Socrates.
Euthyphro's Dilemma Friend of Socrates, introduced at the beginning, he takes his father to court for manslaughter. Tries to define holiness, but if what the gods decree is holy then what holiness is whatever the gods say.
Romulus The founder of Rome, killed his brother, was raised by a wolf, named Rome after himself.
Remus The brother of Romulus, Who was killed by his brother when he tried to take the throne for himself, Helped Romulus build Rome, also gather citizens.
Numa Pompillius 2nd King of Rome, voted into power, deeply educated in the laws of God. Teacher = Pythagoras of Samos, introduced many religious practices, sought peace, wisdom from goddess nymph. Reigned 43 years. Thought to be a son of Zeus
Cincinattus Roman farmer, dictator, and gained respect as a model Roman citizen.
Verginia Was raped by Appius Claudius and then her father killed her
Lucretia Was raped by Sextus Tarquinius Superbus and then she killed herself even though her husband and father told her she was innocent.
Brutus The main conspirator and murderer of Julius Caesar, husband of Portia, loved Rome so much that he killed Caesar.
Sextus Tarquinius Superbus A creep who pretended that Lucretia was the slave of him so that he could rape her and get away with it. This brought about the change in the government, they got rid of the kings.
Gaius Mucius A nobleman who knew that it was wrong to have different classes and that everyone should be equal.
Appius Claudius A creep! He raped Verginia and threatened to kill her and then kill a male servant and lie them together, had no kindness in his soul.
Camillus 4th century B.C. Dictator, kicks out the Gauls, becomes a hero, uses stealth to conquer the Fabiians, rescued the Fabiian schoolboys, was elected tribune. Alienated himself from the people.
The Twelve Tables Were written on 12 stone pillars, and they are the rules that were put into place when Rome was established.
The Gauls They were like Nomads, they wandered around, and they pretty much just settled anywhere. They fought for the ground that they were on.
Creusa wife of Aeneas at Troy, Ascanius's mother, dies in Troy
Anchises Aeneas's Father. He was in the Aenead, dies and goes to the underworld, he ends up talking to Aeneas in the underworld about Elysium.
Ascanius Son of Aeneas and Creusa, lives through the escape from Troy.
Dido The woman who marries Aeneas in the Aenead, he leaves her and then she kills herself because she said she wouldn't love anybody ever again after her first husband was killed in battle. Sister of Anna.
Carthage The city which was the favorite of Juno's, bent on revenge against Aeneas, was burned to the ground by Aeneas.
Juno The top goddess in the Aenead, none to happy with Aeneas, favorite city is Carthage, Hera in Greek
Venus Aphrodite in Greek, in the Aenead, a goddess who helps Aeneas and gets him away from the rage of Hera/Juno. Mother of Aeneas.
Amata Queen of the Latins, Rome and the objects of marriage to Lavinia and Aeneas
Lavinia Son of Latinus
Latinus Father of Amata and father of Lavinia. Proved able to marry Amata and King of Latins and Rome.
Dis The place in Hades where those who want to be reincarnated would want to go. Not everyone would be there, but there would be people who would live again in a different person.
Elysium The place in Hades where the Greeks thought that it was like heaven. you don't have to do any work, but it's the good life.
The Sybill the period of many gods, and a strong religious presence.
Vulcan Greek Hephaestus, god, husband of Aphrodite, made the shield for Aeneas even though Aphrodite had an affair with someone Anchises to produce Aeneas.
Turnus One of the gods in the Aenead,
Pallas Another name for Athena, goddess of wisdom, helps Aeneas escape from Juno's wrath at Carthage, helped get him together with Dido.
Camilla Roman General who held a Tuscan city under siege and refused to let it go
Nisus and Eryalus kill many sleeping people, but flashes the helmet he was wearing and the other people are able to find him and capture and kill them.
Julius Caesar The first Caesar, not an emperor, was a dictator, consul, decemvir and many other government officials, he was conspired against and was killed by Brutus and his cronies, for the good of Rome.
Calpurnia Caesar's wife, warns him against the ides of March, doesn't want him to go out because she had a dream.
Octavian The heir to the throne after Julius, and lives.
Cleopatra The wife of Mark Antony.
Antony The friend of Caesar, had no part in the murder of Julius Caesar, Brutus decided to spare him because he
Caligula The fourth Caesar and third emperor of Rome. Full name was Caius Caesar Caligula.
Tiberius He was the third Caesar, the second emperor. Descendants are Nero and Claudius. Major adulterer, cruel.
Nero The 6th Caesar and the 5th emperor, the worst Caesar of them all, he used Christians as torches, used people for brutal games just for entertainment. he was a Sicko.
Vespasian The 10th Caesar, 9th emperor,
Titus The 11th Caesar, and 10th emperor, died on the 13th of September, reigned for 2 years and 2 months before he died.
Cassius One of the conspirators against Caesar in Julius Caesar
Pompey one of the friends of Ceasar, turned against him and then helped to murder Caesar.
Casca Another conspirator against Julius Caesar
Cicero In Julius Caesar, a senator, dies in Julius Caesar.
What prophecy are Laius and Jocasta given concerning their infant son? The prophecy given them is that Oedipus will grow up, kill his father, and marry his mother.
Why is Socrates going to court in the "Last Days of Socrates"? Socrates is going to court because he is being charged with the making of new gods, and polluting the minds of the youth.

Who are the Eumenidies? Why is it fitting that Oedipus meet death in their sacred grove? The Eumenides are the furies. They are the goddesses who take revenge on those who commit patricide or other family murder.
What are the arguments that Crito uses to attempt to convince Socrates to escape from prison? Crito tries to get Socrates to escape prison because Crito says that you can live even more, and you can travel the world, and just live in exile from Socrates' hometown.
Why did Lucretia kill herself? Lucretia kills herself because she was raped, and even though her husband and father told her it wasn't her fault, she felt guilty and then she stabbed herself with a dagger she had hidden in her dress.
What does Aeneas see in Elyusium with his father Anchises? Aeneas and Anchises see many souls in Elyusium, waiting to be re-incarnated and live up in the upper world again.
Why does Brutus argue to spare Antony in Scene 1 of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar? Brutus agrees to spare Antony because somebody might suspect Brutus if Antony weren't spared.
In Julius Caesar, what eventually happens to Portia? How does Brutus handle it? Portia kills herself, and Brutus is horrified and misses her.

How does the world of Forms differ from the material world? The world of forms differs from the material world because it isn't something that can be described. Joy and love are forms, you can't really describe them. Anything that we see is materialistic such as glass, computers, and guns. you can describe it.
What sort of dictator was Lucius Quinctius Cinncinatus? He wasn't a very good one, he was a better consul than dictator. He just didnt' take it seriously.
What is the significance of Aeneas's shield? The significance of Aeneas' shield is that it is like a piece of history. It has several different pictures and scenes from history.
According to Revelation 19 and 20, why does the Gospel make headway in the world? the devil has been chained up, and can't deceive the nations.
