| General and Specific Nouns | General nouns name a broad category of items. Specific nouns name a narrower category. General- flower specific- daisy |
| Collective Nouns | A noun that in its singular form names a group of individuals, persons, animals, or things. Collective noun- class Type of person, animal or thing- students. |
| Concrete and Abstract Nouns | Concrete nouns are physical items you can see, hear, smell or touch. Abstract nouns name ideas, qualities, and feelings. |
| Pronouns and Antecedents | A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. The noun that is replaced by the pronoun is called the antecedent. |
| Personal Pronouns | Identifies a person speaking-first person, a person spoken to--second person, a person, aplace, or thing spoken about- third person. |
| Verbs | A word that expresses action or state of being. |
| Common and Proper Nouns | Proper Nouns name specific people, places, things, and ideas. Common nouns are general names for people, place, things and ideas. Common- Daughter Proper- Fisher |
| Action and Linking Verbs | Action verbs tell what action is occurring. Linking verbs connect the subject of a sentence with a word or expression that describes or renames the subject. |
| Verb Simple Tenses | Verbs have tenses, or particular forms, that express the time of the event, the past, present, or future tense. |
| Verb Perfect Tenses | The Present Perfect tense shows an action that began in the past and continues into the present. The present Perfect is formed using has or have with the past participle of a verb. |
| Past perfect Tense | Shows a past action that ended before another past action began. The past perfect tense is formed by using had with the past participle of a verb. |
| Future Perfect Tense | Shows a future action that will have ended before another begins. To for the future tense, use will have with the past participle of a verb. |
| Irregular Verbs | The past and past participle of irregular verbs do not follow the pattern of adding -ed or -d. |
| Adjectives | A word that modifies or describes a noun or pronoun. An adjective answers the questions what kind, how much, how many, or which one. |
