Term | Definition |
---|---|
Radians | the inverse function of the cosine; the angle that has a cosine equal to a given number. |
Degrees | a specific identifiable position in a continuum or series. |
Coterminal Angle | drawn in the standard position and have terminal sides in the same location. |
Quadrantal Angle | Angles in the standard position where the terminal side lies on the x or y axis |
Unit Circle | a radius of one, located centered at the origin. |
Reference Angle | The smallest angle that the terminal side of a given angle makes with the x-axis. |
Sine | the length of the opposite side divided by the length of the hypotenuse. |
Cosine | the length of the adjacent side divided by the length of the hypotenuse. |
Tangent | the opposite side over the adjacent side. |
Cosecant | the length of the hypotenuse divided by the length of the opposite side. |
Secant | the length of the hypotenuse divided by the length of the adjacent side. |
Cotangent inverse | ratio of the adjacent to the opposite side of a right-angled triangle. |
Arcsine | the inverse function of the sine; the angle that has a sine equal to a given number. |
Arccos | the inverse of the cosine function. It returns the angle whose cosine is a given number. |
Arctan | the inverse of the tangent function. It returns the angle whose tangent is a given number. |
Law of sines | the ratio of each side of a plane triangle to the sine of the opposite angle is the same for all three sides and angles |
Law of cosines | the square of a side of a plane triangle equals the sum of the squares of the remaining sides minus twice the product of those sides and the cosine of the angle between them |
