| consonance | repetition of final consonant sounds within stressed syllables that have different vowel sounds |
| voice | emerges from a poem's speaker |
| speaker | serves the same function as a narrator in a story |
| tone | attitude projected toward the subject and the audience |
| denotation | a word's definition |
| connotation | emotional associations a word evokes |
| sensory details | appeals to sight, sound, taste, touch..etc |
| similes | uses as or like to compare |
| metaphor | states that one thing is another in comparison |
| hyperbole | an extreme exaggeration |
