| Adobe Illustrator | A vector program used to create logos and work with or manipulate type. Anchor Point |
| Art Board | Printable portion of the work area, where illustrations can be finalized. |
| Bezier Curve | A mathematically generated curve that has two endpoints and control points to specify curve direction. |
| Bounding Box | A temporary frame around a selected object that shows the object's outer dimensions. |
| Closed Path | Vector paths that are continuous and have no ends; the beginning and end points are the same. |
| CMYK | CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (or Key), the colors a printer works with, as opposed to the screen color space, RGB. This is also known as process color. |
| Constrain | To force an object to take a certain form. |
| Corner Point | An anchor point where a path changes direction in an angle rather than smoothly. |
| EPS | EPS stands for Encapsulated PostScript. A common file format for exporting Illustrator files, it contains a bitmap preview of the image as well as instructions written in the PostScript language that describe how the object is to be printed. |
| Direct Selection Tool | White arrow that will select individual objects in a group or anchor points. Direction Line |
| Dock | A location in the application window where a panel or panels are secured so they do not float. |
| Embed | Place a file or object in a file so that it becomes part of the file. |
| Fill | Characteristics of the inner area of an object, such as the color, pattern, style, etc., inside an object. |
| Filter | A special effect applied to a digital image. Many filters mimic the effect of special camera lenses. |
| Gradient | A graduated blend of colors used as a fill; can be linear (flat) or radial (round). Guides Nonprinting lines that can be used to creat boundaries or guidelines in a drawing. Layer A single level in the stacking order that cab hold any number of object. |
| Marquee | Rectangle drawn around an object with a tool to select an area. Opacity Solidity of an object's color; the opposite of transparency. |
| Open Path | Vector paths that have two ends; the beginning and end points are not the same. |
| Panel | A group of related commands and options. Parent Layer Layer in which one or more sublayers are stored. |
| Paste Board | The area surrounding the art board on the computer screen; depending on the magnification or view, it may or may not be visible. |
| Path | The line that forms the shape of an object. |
| Picas | Measurement system used in graphic programs; there are six of these in an inch. Point Measurement system used in graphic design; l/7nd of an inch. |
| Point of Origin | The point on which an object rotates or transforms. The point of origin may be within the object or outside it. |
| Raster | A raster or bitmap image is made out of pixels. Raster images are typically photos, but they can also be illustrations that have been turned from vectors into pixels. |
| RGB | Red, Green and Blue are a monitor's color space. RGB is considered an additive color space, meaning to make white you add all the colors together. |
| Smooth Point | An anchor point that connects path segments in a smooth curve. |
| Stroke | Characteristics of the outline of an object, such as its weight, color, style, etc. Scaling |
| Selection Tool | Black arrow that will select the whole or grouped objects. Shear To slant or skew an object from its original orientation. |
| Sublayer | A layer within a layer that cab have its own name and its own settings. |
| Template | Object that is dimmed and unavilable for modification but can be used as a guide for creating objects. |
| Transparency | Amount of light that can pass through an object. A transparent object allows a objects below to appear. |
| Vector | A computer image that is stored in memory as lines rather than a series of dots, allowing it to be rotated or proportionally scaled. |
| Workspace | A saved set of panel arrangements and tool settings. |
